Describe the Coordinate Plane

The coordinate plane is a grid that gives every point an address (x, y).

Concept

Parts: - x-axis: horizontal - y-axis: vertical - origin: (0,0) - ordered pair: (x, y) In Grade 5, focus is usually Quadrant I (both positive). To plot (4,2): 1. move 4 right 2. move 2 up Read coordinates in order: x first, y second.
