Lesson 14 of 180

Concept

Sometimes an addition problem is a puzzle where the answer is known, but one of the parts is missing.

๐ŸŽฏ Finding the Missing Part: Example: 4 + ___ = 9 1. Count On Strategy: Start at 4 and count on until you hear yourself say 9. "5, 6, 7, 8, 9". How many fingers did you put up? 5! 2. Subtraction Strategy: You can use subtraction to solve missing parts! Since 4 + something = 9, you can ask "What is 9 - 4?". The answer is 5.

Example: ___ + 2 = 7 Use the count on strategy starting from 2, or just think "7 - 2 = 5". The missing number is 5!
