Lesson 77 of 180

Concept

You know how to check addition, and you know how to check subtraction. Now they are completely mixed up!

🎯 The "Double Check" Rule: 1. Check the sign: Is it a plus or a minus? 2. Check the math: Do the calculation. 3. Check the balance: Does it match the number on the other side of the equals sign?

Sometimes, both sides of the equals sign will have math on them! Example: 5 + 4 = 10 - 1 1. Solve the left side: 5 + 4 = 9. 2. Solve the right side: 10 - 1 = 9. 3. Does 9 = 9? YES! This is a TRUE sentence!
