Add by Counting On - Sums up to 10

šŸš€ Boost your addition speed! Instead of counting every single thing, start with the biggest number and just count on from there.

Lesson 3

Concept

When adding two numbers together, you don't need to start from 1. šŸŽÆ **The "Count On" Trick:** If you want to solve **6 + 3**, you don't need to count 1,2,3,4,5,6... and then 7,8,9. 1. **Find the bigger number:** In 6 + 3, the bigger number is 6. 2. **Put that number in your head:** Think "6". 3. **Count on the smaller number:** Hold up 3 fingers. Say "6"... then put down a finger and say "7", "8", "9". 4. **The last number you say is the answer!** So, 6 + 3 = 9. This trick saves so much time! It also works even if the small number is first. For 2 + 7, start at 7 and count on 2: "7... 8, 9".

Try it

Let's practice counting on! **Instructions:** Put the big number in your head and count on to find the answer. **Problem 1: 5 + 2 = ?** * Think: "5" * Count on 2 more: "___ , ___" * Answer: ___ **Problem 2: 7 + 3 = ?** * Think: "7" * Count on 3 more: "___ , ___ , ___" * Answer: ___ **Problem 3: 1 + 8 = ?** * (Hint: Start with the bigger number, 8!) * Think: "8" * Count on 1 more: "___" * Answer: ___ **Problem 4: 6 + 4 = ?** * Answer: ___
