An "addend" is just a fancy math word for a number you add. (In 5 + 3 = 8, the 5 and the 3 are addends). šÆ **The Missing Addend Puzzle:** **Story:** "A toy store has 18 teddy bears in total. 10 of them are brown, and the rest are white. How many are white?" * **Whole (Total):** 18 bears. * **Part 1 (Addend):** 10 brown. * **Part 2 (Addend):** ??? white. **Equation:** 10 + ??? = 18. When you know the TOTAL and ONE PART, you can always use subtraction to find the other part! * 18 (Total) - 10 (Part 1) = 8 (Part 2). * So, there are 8 white bears!
