Lesson 2 of 202

Concept

Think of place value like apartment floors in a tower.

šŸ¢ Digit Tower: In the number 472,915: - 4 lives in the hundred-thousands place → value is 400,000 - 7 lives in the ten-thousands place → value is 70,000 - 2 lives in the thousands place → value is 2,000 - 9 lives in the hundreds place → value is 900 - 1 lives in the tens place → value is 10 - 5 lives in the ones place → value is 5

šŸ” Same digit, different value: Compare these: - In 3,64, the 6 = 60 - In 6,304, the 6 = 6,000 - In 94,268, the 6 = 60

🌟 Rule: Value of a digit = digit Ɨ place value.

If the place changes, the value changes!
