Relate decimals and money
Money is a perfect way to understand decimals. Dollars are ones, dimes are tenths, and pennies are hundredths.

Concept
In decimal money: - 1 dollar = 1.00 - 1 dime = 0.10 - 1 cent = 0.01
šµ Examples: - $3.47 means 3 dollars, 4 dimes, 7 pennies - $0.89 means 89 cents - $12.05 means 12 dollars and 5 cents
Place value link: - tenths place = dimes - hundredths place = pennies
So 4.2 dollars = $4.20
