Concept

Counting money is an important life skill. To do it, you need to know the value of each coin and have a good strategy for counting them up.

Coin Values:
*   Penny: 1 cent (Β’)
*   Nickel: 5 cents (Β’)
*   Dime: 10 cents (Β’)
*   Quarter: 25 cents (Β’)

Counting Strategy: 1. Sort the coins: Group all the quarters together, all the dimes together, and so on. 2. Start with the biggest value: Begin counting your quarters first. This gets the total up high very quickly. 3. Count on: After you count the quarters, continue counting on with the dimes, then the nickels, and finally the pennies.

Example: You have 2 quarters, 1 dime, 2 nickels, and 3 pennies.
*   Quarters: 25, 50...
*   Dime (count on from 50): 60...
*   Nickels (count on from 60): 65, 70...
*   Pennies (count on from 70): 71, 72, 73.
You have 73 cents!

Key Idea: Always start counting with the coins that have the greatest value. It makes counting faster and helps avoid mistakes.
