Lesson 7 of 186

Concept

Adding doubles means taking a number and adding that exact same number to it. For example, 3 + 3 is a double. We are adding two groups of three.

Visual: Imagine you have a basket with 4 yummy apples 🍎🍎🍎🍎. Your friend gives you another basket with 4 more yummy apples 🍎🍎🍎🍎. To find out how many apples you have in total, you add 4 + 4. That's a double! You have 8 apples in total.

Key Idea: Doubles are symmetrical. If you look at your hands, you have 5 fingers on one hand and 5 on the other. 5 + 5 = 10. That's a double too!

Try it

Practice: Add doubles.
