Lesson 5

Concept

Metric word problems follow the exact same rules as the Customary word problems. The only difference is the letters at the end of the numbers! šŸŽÆ **The Metric Check:** **Story:** "A huge swimming pool is 50 meters long. The diving board is 14 meters long. What is the total length if you lay them end-to-end?" 1. **Find Clues:** "Total length" = ALWAYS ADD! 2. **Identify Units:** Meters! The answer must have "m" or "meters" by it. 3. **Stack it:** 5 0 + 1 4 -------- 4. **Solve:** 0+4=4. 5+1=6. 5. **Answer:** **64 meters.** (Or 64 m!).
