Do You Have Enough Money? (Up to $5.00)

šŸ›’ The Fancy Toy Aisle! Now the toys are expensive. Count up your paper bills and loose change to see if you can buy it!

Lesson 6

Concept

Comparing money with dollars and cents works exactly like comparing 3-digit numbers! Look at the biggest digit first. šŸŽÆ **The "Left-to-Right" Money Check:** * Toy Price: **$3.65** * You have: **$2.99** 1. Look at the Dollars (the left side of the dot!). 2. **3 vs 2!** 3 is bigger. Stop! You don't even have to look at the cents on the right! 3. **NOT ENOUGH MONEY!** (Even though 99 cents looks like a lot, a full dollar is always worth more). If the dollars match (Ex: $4.50 vs $4.75), THEN you check the Cents on the right side of the dot.

Try it

Do you have enough to buy the fancy toy? **Instructions:** Add up the money in your hand. Compare the dollars first! Then the cents. **Problem 1:** Toy Price: $4.25 Your Hand: Three $1 bills, 4 Quarters. * Bills: $3.00. * Wait, 4 Quarters is another dollar! So you actually have $4.00 total! * 4.00 vs 4.25 * Do you have enough? (Yes / No) **Problem 2:** Toy Price: $2.80 Your Hand: Two $1 bills, 3 Quarters (75c), 1 Dime (10c). * Your Total: $2.85 * Do you have enough? (Yes / No) **Problem 3:** Toy Price: $5.00 Your Hand: Four $1 bills, 3 Quarters, 2 Dimes. * Let's add the coins: (75 + 20) = 95 cents. * Total: $4.95. Oh no! 5 cents short! * Do you have enough? (Yes / No)
