Identify Repeated Addition for Equal Groups
š¦ Adding the same number over and over? That's called Repeated Addition, and it's the secret doorway to learning multiplication!
Concept
When you have groups of things that are perfectly equal, you can use a special kind of addition. šÆ **Equal Groups:** Imagine 3 boxes of donuts. Every single box has exactly 4 donuts inside. * Box 1: 4 donuts * Box 2: 4 donuts * Box 3: 4 donuts Instead of counting every single donut one by one, we write a repeated addition sentence! **4 + 4 + 4 = 12**. We "repeated" the number 4 exactly three times, because there are three groups!
Try it
Read the equal groups! **Instructions:** Look at the story and choose the correct repeated addition sentence. **Problem 1:** You have 4 bags of apples. There are 5 apples in EVERY bag. Which sentence matches? A) 4 + 5 = 9 B) 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 C) 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16 **Problem 2:** You see a picture of 2 nests. Each nest has 3 eggs. What is the repeated addition sentence? * Equation: ___ + ___ = ___ **Problem 3:** Look at this sentence: 6 + 6 = 12. Which story matches it? A) 6 kids got 6 more toys. B) 2 teams have 6 players each.
