Lesson 2

Concept

This is the way almost all adults do math on paper! It's called vertical addition (or stacking). šŸŽÆ **The Stacking Rules:** **Example: 42 + 35** 1. **Line them up perfectly!** Write the 42, then write the 35 perfectly underneath it. The Ones must be stacked in the "Ones Column", and the Tens in the "Tens Column". 2. **Draw the line:** Draw a line underneath, like a shelf for your answer. 3. **Start on the RIGHT!** We ALWAYS start in the Ones column on the right side. * Add the ones: 2 + 5 = 7. Write the 7 under the Ones column. 4. **Move to the LEFT!** Now add the Tens column. * Add the tens: 4 + 3 = 7. Write the 7 under the Tens column. Answer: **77**!
