You know the clue words for addition (in all, total, together, sum). Now the numbers are just going to be bigger! šŸŽÆ **The Set-Up:** **Story:** "Farmer Sue harvested 45 pumpkins on Tuesday. She harvested 38 pumpkins on Wednesday. How many pumpkins did she harvest in all?" 1. **Find clues:** "In all" tells me to add (+). 2. **Find numbers:** 45 and 38. 3. **WRITE IT STACKED:** Don't try to do this in your head! Find a blank space on your paper and write them vertically right away! 4 5 + 3 8 --------- 4. **Solve:** 5+8=13. Write the 3, carry the 1! 1+4+3 = 8. 5. **Final Answer:** 83 pumpkins!
