Mixed Practice: Subtract 1-Digit from 2-Digit

šŸ”€ The Sneaky Mix-Up! Some of these problems require borrowing... but some of them don't! Keep your guard up and test the rhyme every time.

Lesson 5

Concept

You know how to subtract with borrowing, and without. Now the teacher is going to mix them up to see if you are paying attention. šŸŽÆ **The "Check the Floor" Strategy:** Before you cross anything out, you MUST look at the Ones column. * "More on top? No need to stop!" (Example: 48 - 3. 8 is bigger than 3. Just subtract normally!). * "More on the floor? Go next door and get 10 more!" (Example: 43 - 8. 8 is bigger than 3. You MUST borrow!).

Try it

To borrow, or not to borrow? That is the question! **Instructions:** Check the Ones column. Do you need to borrow? Yes or No? Then solve! **Problem 1:** 4 6 - 2 -------- * Need to borrow? Yes / No (6 is bigger than 2!) * Answer: ___ **Problem 2:** 4 6 - 8 -------- * Need to borrow? Yes / No (8>6! Go next door!) * Answer: ___ **Problem 3:** 8 1 - 9 -------- * Need to borrow? Yes / No * Answer: ___ **Problem 4:** 5 9 - 9 -------- * Need to borrow? Yes / No (Hint: "Numbers the same? Zero's the game!") * Answer: ___
