Experimental Probability

Experimental probability uses real outcomes from trials.

Concept

Formula: P(event) = number of times event occurs / total trials

Example: A coin is flipped 50 times and lands heads 28 times. Experimental P(heads)=28/50=0.56

As more trials are done, experimental probability tends to approach theoretical probability.

Try it

Compute experimental probability: 1. A die is rolled 60 times; 5 appears 11 times. 2. A spinner lands red 18 out of 40 spins. 3. A basketball player makes 27 of 45 shots. 4. Compare each result to its theoretical probability.
