Add and Subtract Decimal Numbers

Adding and subtracting decimals works like whole numbers, but decimal points must line up.

Concept

Rule: line up decimal points vertically. Example addition: 12.45 + 3.70 = 16.15 Example subtraction: 18.20 - 6.75 = 11.45 You can add zeros to keep place values aligned: 5.2 = 5.20
