Place value names up to ten thousands
Big numbers are easier when you read them by place. In third grade, you can now read numbers all the way to ten-thousands.
Do this: Read the concept below, then try the quiz or activity.
Concept
Think of place value like seats in a math stadium.
π― From right to left, seats are: - ones - tens - hundreds - thousands - ten-thousands
Example: 47,305 - 4 is in the ten-thousands place - 7 is in the thousands place - 3 is in the hundreds place - 0 is in the tens place - 5 is in the ones place
When reading numbers, group digits with commas: 47,305 reads as "forty-seven thousand, three hundred five."
