Use this plan: 1. What do you know? 2. What do you need? 3. Which operation first? 4. Which operation second?
Example: A store sold 246 apples on Monday and 189 on Tuesday. It needs 500 apples sold by Wednesday. How many more apples are needed?
Step 1: 246 + 189 = 435 Step 2: 500 - 435 = 65 Answer: 65 more apples.
