Compare Size, Weight, and Capacity

๐Ÿ˜ How heavy is a hippo? How much water fits in a bathtub? Let's explore how to measure weight and capacity!

Do this: Read the concept below, then try the quiz or activity.

Lesson 82 of 180

Concept

We measure different things in different ways. We already learned length (how long) and height (how tall).

๐ŸŽฏ Weight (How Heavy): When we pick something up, we feel its weight. * We use the words: Heavy, Heavier, Heaviest and Light, Lighter, Lightest. * A bowling ball is heavy. A feather is light.

๐ŸŽฏ Capacity (How Much It Holds): When we fill a container with liquid (like water) or sand, we measure its capacity. * We use the words: Holds More, Holds Less, or Holds the Most / Least. * A bathtub holds more water than a teacup. A swimming pool holds the most water!

When comparing size, always ask yourself: Am I measuring how heavy it is, or how much stuff fits inside it?

Try it

Let's measure up the world!

Instructions: Read the comparison and circle the right answer.

1. Which animal is HEAVIER? A) A blue whale ๐Ÿ‹ B) A tiny mouse ๐Ÿ

2. Which container HOLDS MORE water? A) A plastic water bottle ๐Ÿผ B) A big family swimming pool ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

3. Which object is LIGHTER? A) A giant rock ๐Ÿชจ B) A single leaf from a tree ๐Ÿ‚

4. A thimble is tiny! A bucket is big. Which one holds LESS? A) The bucket B) The thimble
