Match Analog and Digital Clocks: to the Half Hour
š¤ Mix and Match! Let's translate the old-school spinning clock hands into modern digital numbers on a screen.
Concept
You know how to read both digital clocks and analog clocks! Now let's be translators. šÆ **Translating "O'Clock":** * **Analog:** Long hand straight on the 12. Short hand on a number. * **Digital:** The colon dots and "00" ( :00 ). šÆ **Translating "Thirty":** * **Analog:** Long hand straight down on the 6. * **Digital:** The colon dots and "30" ( :30 ). **The Tricky Part!** Remember that when the digital clock says 5:30, the analog clock's short hour hand will NOT be pointing directly at the 5! It will be floating halfway between the 5 and the 6. It always points at the smaller number until it reaches the next "o'clock"!
Try it
Translate the time! **Instructions:** Match the digital clock times to the analog clock hints. **Problem 1: Digital Clock [ 10 : 30 ]** * Where should the long minute hand be? A) On the 12 B) On the 6 * Where should the short hour hand be? A) Pointing exactly at the 10 B) Halfway between the 10 and the 11 **Problem 2: Analog Clock (Long hand on 12, Short hand on 2)** * Write the digital time: [ ___ : ___ ] **Problem 3: Analog Clock (Long hand on 6, Short hand between 7 and 8)** * Write the digital time: [ ___ : ___ ] **Problem 4: Digital Clock [ 4 : 00 ]** * Where is the long minute hand? (Number: ___) * Where is the short hour hand? (Number: ___)
