Concept
A fourth is written 1/4. To be fourths: ā¢ the whole is split into 4 parts ā¢ all 4 parts are equal size Examples: ā¢ A square split into 4 equal little squares ā¢ A circle split into 4 equal slices If parts are not equal, they are not fourths.

Identify whether it shows fourths: 1. Circle split into 4 equal pieces 2. Rectangle split into 4 unequal pieces 3. Square split into 2 equal pieces Practice: 4. Draw a shape and split into fourths. 5. Shade 1/4 of your shape. 6. Shade 2/4 and explain how it compares to 1/2.
