Evaluate functions

To evaluate a function, you substitute the given input value for the variable in the function's equation.

Concept

Example: Given the function f(x) = 2x + 5, find f(3).

1.  Substitute: Replace 'x' with 3.
    *   f(3) = 2(3) + 5
2.  Solve:
    *   f(3) = 6 + 5 = 11
