Which Bar Graph is Correct?
š Spot the imposter! One of the bar graphs matches the data perfectly. The other one is a fake, built with lies. Use your eyes to spot the fake!
Concept
Sometimes an architect makes a mistake drawing a skyscraper. Sometimes a student makes a mistake drawing a bar graph! šÆ **The Bar Graph Checkup Strategy:** When matching a data table to two different bar graphs, you don't have to check the whole graph. Just check ONE row at a time. 1. **Pick the first item:** Look at the data table. "Dogs: 14 votes". 2. **Check Graph A:** Look at the bar for "Dogs" on the first graph. Trace your finger from the top of the bar over to the numbers on the side. Does it hit the number 14? If it hits 12... Graph A is an IMPOSTER! 3. **Check the next:** If they both got the Dogs right, move down the list to "Cats", and check again. Keep checking until one of the graphs makes a mistake. The correct graph must match EVERY SINGLE NUMBER flawlessly.
Try it
Spot the fake! **Instructions:** Compare the table to the options to find the graph that tells the truth. **Data Table (Favorite Sport):** Baseball: 5 Soccer: 8 Tennis: 3 **Problem 1:** You check Graph A. The bar for Baseball goes up to the line for 5. The bar for Soccer goes up to the line for 6. * Wait! Does Soccer match the Table? * Is Graph A the Imposter? (Yes / No) **Problem 2:** You check Graph B. * Baseball goes to 5. (Matches!) * Soccer goes to 8. (Matches!) * Tennis goes to 4. * Wait! What does the table say for Tennis? ___ * Is Graph B the Imposter? (Yes / No) **Problem 3:** You check Graph C. Baseball goes to 5. Soccer goes to 8. Tennis goes to 3. * Is Graph C the correct graph? (Yes / No)
