Identify Repeated Addition for Arrays

ā¬›ļø Arrays are math grids! An array organizes items perfectly into straight rows and up-and-down columns.

Lesson 6

Concept

An "**Array**" is a picture where objects are lined up in perfect rows and columns, like a grid of windows on a skyscraper! šŸŽÆ **Reading the Rows:** Look at an array. We usually make repeated addition sentences by reading the **Rows** (side-to-side). * Imagine a box of chocolates. * šŸ¬šŸ¬šŸ¬ (Row 1 has 3) * šŸ¬šŸ¬šŸ¬ (Row 2 has 3) * šŸ¬šŸ¬šŸ¬ (Row 3 has 3) * šŸ¬šŸ¬šŸ¬ (Row 4 has 3) We have 4 rows. Each row has 3. The repeated addition is: **3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12**!

Try it

Read the grid! **Instructions:** Match the array picture to the correct repeated addition sentence. **Problem 1:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A) 2 + 2 = 4 B) 4 + 4 = 8 C) 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16 **Problem 2:** šŸ”“šŸ”“šŸ”“ šŸ”“šŸ”“šŸ”“ A) 3 + 3 = 6 B) 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 C) Both are correct! (You can read rows OR columns!) **Problem 3:** You see an array of stamps on a letter. There are 2 rows. Each row has 5 stamps. Which sentence is correct? A) 5 + 5 = 10 B) 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10
