In the number 53,482: - 5 means 50,000 - 3 means 3,000 - 4 means 400 - 8 means 80 - 2 means 2 Same digit, different values: - In 8,214 the 8 is 8,000 - In 2,084 the 8 is 80 Rule: digit value = digit × place value.
