Words to Digits (Up to 1,000)
π€ Translate the code! We have to turn English spelling words into Math numbers. It's time to be a translator.
Do this: Read the concept below, then try the quiz or activity.
Concept
Numbers can be written entirely in letters. "Three Hundred Forty-Two." We can translate that easily.
π― The Translator Strategy: Read the word, and just write down what you hear!
Word: "Six hundred twenty-five" 1. "Six hundred..." -> Write the number 6 in the Hundreds place. 2. "...twenty..." -> Twenty means 2 Tens. Write the 2 in the Tens place. 3. "...five." -> Write the 5 in the Ones place. 4. Translated: 625!
The Trick Words: "Four hundred two". * I hear the 4 Hundreds. I hear the 2 Ones. I did NOT hear a "ty" word (like forty or fifty) or a "teen" word! * The Tens place is empty. Put a zero! * Translated: 402.
