Concept
When you pay with more money than the item costs, the extra money "left over" is called your Change.
π― The Change Formula: Money Given - Price Tag = Change.
Example: * You give: $1.00 (100Β’). * Toy Costs: 78Β’. * Math: 100 - 78 = ? * Stack and borrow! (Or count up! 78 + 22 = 100). * Answer: The cashier MUST hand you 22Β’ back.
If the cashier hands you a dime and a penny (11Β’)... they cheated you out of your hard-earned math money!
Try it
Don't get cheated!
Instructions: Subtract the price from the money you gave the cashier ($1.00) to find your change.
Problem 1: You give: $1.00 (100). The Candy cost: 90Β’. * 100 - 90 = ? * Change: ___Β’.
Problem 2: You give: $1.00 (100). The Pencil cost: 45Β’. * 100 - 45 = ? * (Hint: Borrow across zeroes! 10-5=5. 9-4=5). * Change: ___Β’.
Problem 3: You give: 50Β’ (Two quarters!). The Sticker cost: 30Β’. * Wait! You only gave 50! Subtract from 50, not 100! * 50 - 30 = ___Β’ * Change: ___Β’.
Problem 4: You give: $1.00. The Game cost: $1.00. * 100 - 100 = ___ * Change: ___Β’!
