Identify Repeated Addition for Arrays

⬛️ Arrays are math grids! An array organizes items perfectly into straight rows and up-and-down columns.

Do this: Read the concept below, then try the quiz or activity.

Lesson 32 of 186

Concept

An "Array" is a picture where objects are lined up in perfect rows and columns, like a grid of windows on a skyscraper!

🎯 Reading the Rows: Look at an array. We usually make repeated addition sentences by reading the Rows (side-to-side). * Imagine a box of chocolates. * 🍬🍬🍬 (Row 1 has 3) * 🍬🍬🍬 (Row 2 has 3) * 🍬🍬🍬 (Row 3 has 3) * 🍬🍬🍬 (Row 4 has 3)

We have 4 rows. Each row has 3. The repeated addition is: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12!

Try it

Read the grid!

Instructions: Match the array picture to the correct repeated addition sentence.

Problem 1: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A) 2 + 2 = 4 B) 4 + 4 = 8 C) 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16

Problem 2: 🔴🔴🔴 🔴🔴🔴 A) 3 + 3 = 6 B) 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 C) Both are correct! (You can read rows OR columns!)

Problem 3: You see an array of stamps on a letter. There are 2 rows. Each row has 5 stamps. Which sentence is correct? A) 5 + 5 = 10 B) 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10
