Compare Length in Inches

šŸ“ Ruler vs. Ruler! Which toy is longer? Sometimes you can't just look at them, you have to measure both and do the math!

Lesson 3

Concept

Comparing lengths means looking at two measurements and figuring out the DIFFERENCE between them. šŸŽÆ **The "How Much Longer?" Strategy:** **Example:** A toy snake is 12 inches long. A toy spider is 3 inches long. How much longer is the snake? 1. **Measure Both:** We did that! Snake = 12. Spider = 3. 2. **Find the Difference:** "How much longer" ALWAYS means subtraction! (Big number minus Small number). 3. **The Math:** 12 inches - 3 inches = 9 inches. 4. **Answer:** The snake is **9 inches longer** than the spider! *Bonus: The spider is 9 inches shorter than the snake!*

Try it

The red ribbon is 10 inches. * How much longer is the blue ribbon? (15 - 10 = ___) * Answer: ___ inches. **Problem 2:** Your shoe is 8 inches long. Your dad's shoe is 14 inches long. * How much shorter is your shoe? * Answer: ___ inches. **Problem 3:** A TV screen is 30 inches wide.
